Mold Remediation: Humidity

When there is enough humidity or dampness in the air, it can provide enough moisture for mold to grow. Indoor relative humidity (RH) should be kept below 60 percent, ideally between 30 percent and 50 percent, if at all possible, to avoid mold growth. Low humidity may also deter pests (such as cockroaches) and dust mites from entering the home.

Is it possible to get sick from mold caused by moisture?

Mold in your home can make you sick in some cases, especially if you have allergies or asthma, so take precautions. Mold exposure can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs, regardless of whether you are allergic to molds.

What kind of humidity is necessary to get rid of mold?

Indoor humidity should be reduced to between 30 percent and 60 percent in order to reduce the growth of black mold in the home or office. Bathrooms should also be ventilated, and air conditioners and dehumidifiers should be used when necessary.

Is it possible for mold to grow in a humid environment?

Condensation can occur when warm, humid air comes into contact with a surface that is significantly cooler than the surrounding air temperature. Mold can grow on porous surfaces if moisture accumulates on them for an extended period of time. It is for this reason that maintaining a low relative humidity inside your building is critical for mold and mildew prevention.

Is it possible for mold to grow at 70 percent humidity?

It is not possible for mold to grow in materials if there are no cold-condensing surfaces and the relative humidity (RH) is kept below 60% indoors. Mold, on the other hand, will almost certainly grow indoors if the relative humidity (RH) remains above 70% for an extended period of time.

Is it possible to get rid of mold with a dehumidifier?

Simply put, dehumidifiers do not have the ability to remove mold. The machine's purpose is to remove moisture from the atmosphere. This means that if mildew is already present in a home or building, it will not be removed simply by working to reduce the amount of moisture present after the fact.
