Flood Damage

Sewage Cleanup: Flood Damage

Floods are one of the natural disasters that cause the most economic damage and are one of the most devastating natural disasters in the world. In recent decades, the economic damage caused by flooding has increased in a number of different countries. The effects of flooding can vary from one location to the next depending on the characteristics of the elements that are exposed. As a result, in order to have an effective flood disaster risk management system, flood damage assessment methods that take into account local characteristics should be developed.

What is an example of a flood?

An illustration of a flood would be a river that overflows into the streets that are nearby. The contents of a bathtub spilling out onto the floor is an illustration of a flood.

How exactly does a house get damaged by a flood?

When a flood occurs suddenly, such as in the case of a flash flood, the sheer force of the moving water can cause damage to the foundation, siding, and walls of your home.  The damage to the building's structure will get worse the longer standing water remains inside the building because the wood and drywall will become increasingly compromised. It is necessary to replace any drywall that came into contact with the water, and it is possible that some of the wood will also need to be replaced.

Does flooding have the potential to damage foundations?

Flooding causes damage to your foundation in two primary ways: first, because of the force of the rapidly moving water, and second, because of the water that seeps in and causes or widens cracks in the foundation. Both of these types of damage will reduce the robustness of the structure of your home and leave the inside more vulnerable to the effects of the environment.

What to do when your house has been damaged because of flooding?

You do not have time on your side. To prevent further property damage and loss caused by seeping water, prompt action is required. Do not put off cleaning up the damage caused by the flood. You are only postponing the inevitable if your items are not completely dry before you store them. Make sure that the issue is resolved as quickly as possible.

Who is to blame for the damage caused by the flood?

If the flooding in your rented home was caused by rain or an issue with a property next door, it is the responsibility of your landlord to pay for the necessary repairs. If you were the one who caused the flooding, your landlord is not likely to take responsibility for it. One of your responsibilities will be to repair any damage that has been done to the structure of your home.
